Winter's Last Grasp

March in Alaska is a unique time of year.  It looks like winter, with snow still abounding.  But it feels like spring, with the days growing longer.  Here, Jolene and I went for a walk on the hayflats this past March.

One of our first walks on the hayflats without Dino, but the views were magnificent.

Getting a picture of Jolene, getting a picture of something.

The creek still frozen over.

Our frozen garden.

Lots of snow to melt before planting time.

A little snow-covered spruce.

Heidi playing hide-n-seek up an aspen tree.

An unusual winter site, a rider moving along the National Historic Iditarod Trail, just below the house.

Moose below the bluff, stripping every bit of sustenance they can get off the tree limbs.

Moose abound this time of year on the hayflats.
