I wanted to give the girls a chance to play in the snow before they headed back to Texas so we took them up to Gold Chord Lake, aka "secret lake." They worked up a sweat getting to the lake but ended up with a chill as a storm attempted to pass over. We stayed just long enough for them to throw snow balls and then made the hike back down to the car. The trail is fairly short, about 1 mile with a 500 foot elevation gain. It's still a great work out especially if you are toting a 3 year old in a back pack! Bolders have been carefully placed in the form of steps to make this hike a little easier. Sometimes I feel like a mountain goat hiking this narrow trail. Look closely at the pictures, see if you can pick out the kiddos and Independence mine is some of them. The weather changes fast at this altitude so always be prepared if you go. Take water and a picnic lunch too!
