Air Show and Summer Yard Projects

We spent last Saturday at the air show, and have the sunburns to prove it! Caught Jolene in the middle of trying to photo-bomb the picture of the boys in front of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter at the air show.

We scored the VIP seating for the show...can't complain about that!

Navy SNV-2, aka BT-13 Basic Trainer, used by the Services as the intermediate pilot trainer during WWII. This one sports a Navy Blue and Gold color scheme.

Paratroopers jumping out of a C-17.

A crowd favorite, the Jelly Belly airplane, which flew three different routines (including landing on top of this pickup, no kidding).

F-22s on the line, with the Thunderbirds parked just beyond.

Evidently, there was some type of Air Force demo team there.....they were ok, but not as good as the Blue Angels!  ;)

The 'before' picture. For the Fourth of July, instead of going to the parade, the boys and I hunkered down to finish a yard project I started the day before. Here's the 'before' picture of our side yard, which was too sloped to mow, and had a sinkhole in the middle I have had to fill in every ~3-5 years.

After. This is 140 cu yds of fill, delivered by 14 dump trucks. You can just make out the Cat skid steer I used in the distance partially hidden by a little birch tree. This is about 3 times more fill dirt than I used in the past...hoping that this extra space of level area on the side of our house becomes more useful (and that the sinkhole finally stops sinking - it's caused by some stumps our developer buried there before we bought the house 10 years ago).

The 'before' picture from the road....yep, we lost these nice lupine flowers during the project.

The 'after' pic as viewed from the road.

Originally, this was going to be phase 1 of a much larger project, leveling it with the upper yard and building a rock wall.....but we decided it wiser to level it lower for now while the sink hole stabilizes, and save some cash for future projects. Next, Landon will spend a week or so putting some topsoil down, we'll seed it, and grow some grass from here back to the road, as part of a grassy area for throwing the football around, and in the Winter it can be part of a bigger loop for a  ski trail / sled hill around the property. Hopefully, the sink hole stabilizes and we'll be done, and can plant some Norway spruce around the perimeter. If not, in 5 years I might be bringing in more fill.
