Signs of Spring

As Layne said before we left for up here; Alaska does have four seasons....June, July, August and Winter. We are definitely seeing signs of our "June" season. We had a beautiful afternoon in the mid-60s followed by a fast moving rainstorm that "cooled" it off to the mid 50s. It has been very cool at night (low 40s). The boys have had play dates these past few days. It was fun to sit and listen to the ladies talk. Conversations starters amongst the group of ladies were: "So is anyone coming to vist you this summer?" Followed by, "Are you planning to leave the state?" Not go on vacation, but go out of state. It seemed like a strange questions because where I grew up you could be in four states in about 30 minutes. The wildflowers are starting to bloom and I was surprised to see the standard multiflora roses and something that looks like our bluebonnets from back home. We also seem to have an abundance of dragonflies (and mosquitoes--as annoying as gnats). We are going to spread some wildflower seeds of our own in a couple of patches where we didn't have grass blown. Hopefully, the grass will come up before we start getting company.
