Fur Rondy!

Fur Rondy is a week of special activities involving dog sleds and a fur auction. It is named after the Fur Rendezvous celebration started in the 1930's when all the trappers brought their furs in from the interior to sell in Anchorage. There is also a snow carving competition that the boys thought was really neat. There was also a "Running of the Reindeer" event, where the Reindeer chase people like the bulls of Pamplona.

The furs in the picture are confiscated furs that the fish & game auction off for revenue. We only looked this time. There were no wolverine or lynx furs - those were the only type that we would likely have bid on, since Layne intends (hopes) to get his own brown/black bear hides on future hunts.
