Fishing the Russian River

Had an opportunity to spend a day on the Russian River.  Wasn't too crowded, definitely didn't meet the 'combat fishing' expectation. But the people who weren't there missed out. The sockeye salmon were running thick in the river, and the bears hadn't shown up yet.

Took me about an hour to get the hang of the faster moving current (much faster running than the home creek), and had to adjust fly gear once or twice, but once I got my gear right (with the help of some friends' wise advice) I limited out in about 45 minutes.

Nothing like the Russian River reds. They are bigger than the reds in our creek, by far.

Finally some fish going into the freezer this year.
