Mushrooms of Alaska (By Grayson)

Today we went on a walk to the creek to go fishing. On they way back I decided to take pictures of Alaska's unique mushrooms. This one is called fly agaric. I don't know the name of all them, if you know their names, let us know what they are.

It was a very fun/normal walk down to the creek.

We had fun trying to catch the last few salmon still left in the creek.

This mushroom is called the Gypsy.

This is a cinder-block leftover from the ruins of a US Fish and Wildlife structure where biologists stayed during the salmon run to count every fish that made it out of the fishing area. They call it the "escapement" number, and they have a minimum and maximum number of salmon escaping to spawn needed to keep the runs going. Now the state of Alaska manages the runs, and does a very good job keeping our fish numbers sustainable.

Notice how they look like a side of a pumpkin; their actual names are Milk-Caps.

Gemmed Puffball

I believe that a Smurf lives under this mushroom.

This is Landon after one of his moose hunting trips, sadly no success (yet).

A baby crane enjoying a "swim" down by the creek. We think it is a baby sandhill crane. When grown, this crane might fly to Texas for the Winter, next to my Honey and Gramps' house. We see them there when we visit at Christmas.

This baby bald eagle is very friendly around people. We should name him Fred. After spending the first few months of his life seeing us peering into his nest, he now returns the favor by staying on our deck and peering into our house!

The nightly 'glow' is still appearing on the hay flats.

Dad caught one salmon today, it was 'blushed', meaning it was starting to turn red, so he made salmon patties out of it, like Honey used to make him when he was a kid. It was good, but Honey's is better! Dad says the salmon run in our creek is over this year. Now it's moose season!
