Eagle River-Albert Loop/Nature Trail

We treated ourselves to a nice little hike on Saturday with the boys. It was more windy than we expected and the trail was fun with lots of mud and patches of snow and ice. We are not complaining about the wind because it kept the jumbo mosquitoes away. The locals say these first mosquitoes are big, slow and dumb. Apparently, they get smaller, faster, and more numerous as the summer goes along. Part of the trail is a section of the old Iditarod trail. We intend to go back and do a much longer hike in the future, but since we had no bear spray or ammo, we didn't venture too far. Layne sported Grayson in the baby Bjorn so I could take some pictures. I got some great landscapes, especially considering I did not drag the tripod along. Another part of the trail we hiked is closed for parts of the summer to allow the bears to feast on salmon. Did I mention how blessed we feel to be in Alaska?!
On Sunday morning we woke up to a momma moose and a yearling in our neighbors yard...unfortunately I do not take pictures very well without glasses/contacts. The momma moose was injured and had a definite limp. I will have to try to catch them again.
