Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival

This is one of those quirky little Alaskan festivals. The tiny tourist town of Talkeetna (where the old tv show Northern Exposure was supposably based on) challenges its residents to decorate a moose and then parade it in the world's shortest parade. The parade is so short they literally do it twice. The other excitement at the festival is the moose drop. A big bucket of moose droppings are hoisted in the air and then dropped. Prizes are rewarded for the closest and farthest from the target. The festival benefits the Talkeetna Historical Society. We still haven't actually witnesssed the moose drop but did spend $5 on a piece of poo. We were accompanied this year by the visiting portion of the McDowell clan. Landon attempted to ride a salmon while Kate and Hunter rock climbed. It was also a nice opportunity to pick up some true "Alaska made" products from the arts and crafts vendors. Landon managed to find a slingshot that was "Made in China."
